CHARMOLOGY HEAD

Scarborough Museums Trust

A commission by Scarborough Museums Trust to make a phrenology style head inspired by the Scarborough based Victorian charm collector William James Clarke. The head forms part of the ‘Fears Foes & Faeries’ exhibition, March – September 2012, at Scarborough Art Gallery. The Exhibition displays a collection of charms and amulets collected by Clarke between 1913-1945. It’s a major exhibition for the trust and forms part of the Precious Cargo’s, Stories of the World 2012 Cultural Olympiad. The Charmology Head displays representations of a selection of health charms and also copies of Clarkes original handwritten labels. An alternative Charmology Head II head was created at the same time.
