FARM WORLD INSTALLATION
Crescent ArtsFARM WORLD borrows its title from a ‘model farm’ pack. Elements of this ‘model farm’ are translated to explore much darker aspects of a contemporary agriculture theme which incorporates ethical & ecological concerns about the environment; genetic engineering of crops & species; use of pesticides, erosion of natural habitats and the frequently inhumane rearing and slaughter of animals.
A Poultry Life takes the familiar, historical and iconic ceramic hen egg holder and subverts it to tell a contemporary story. De-beaked and squashed battery chickens replace the familiar romantic vision commenting on the changes to farming production throughout history.
The GM Reaper, a ceramic figure modeled on a plastic toy, a contemporary Grim Reaper commenting on the use of Genetically Modified crops and the risk their artificial nature poses to our future health and DNA.
The Human Milk Cow is inspired by recent news of Chinese Scientists Genetically Modifying cows to produce human milk for infants.
Earth to Earth is a mixed media composition of plastic, ceramic & dead Honey bees. Commenting on the deaths of mass bee colonies and questioning links back to pesticide use.
